Tips for Using a Provider Search Tool

To determine if a particular health care provider is considered "in-network" for your KYHC plan:

  1. Determine the type of covered service or benefit that you need ― pharmacy;  behavioral health and substance abuse;  pediatric vision benefit; all other types of covered services inside the network service area; all other types of covered services outside the network service area (travel network).

  2. Click on the link associated with that particular type of covered service or benefit. Clicking on the appropriate link will take you to a provider look-up tool.

  3. Choose how you want to search for the provider:  zip code, county, city, name, etc.

  4. Enter the appropriate information or select from available drop down boxes and select "SEARCH" or "GO."

  5. After results appear, you may be able to narrow your search to only those within a certain geographic range, provider specialty, or type of condition that the provider may treat.

Some provider search tools enable you to create a provider listing or provider directory that can be sent to your email . . . select the option to create a directory. If you wish to print a copy of the search results, click on the printer icon.

 More Helpful Hints

  • Utilize the features of the provider search tool to narrow down results based on what you need.
  • Avoid using professional titles when searching by name. When searching for Dr. Jane Doe or Jane Doe MD, simply type in "Jane Doe"; do not use "Dr." or "MD" as a part of your search.
  • Most provider search tools will allow you to search using a partial name. If you are unsure of a spelling, use the portion of the name of which you are certain, and narrow your results afterwards.
  • If you have difficulty locating a provider using one search method, consider trying a second search method. For example, if you are searching for Dr. Jane Doe who is an endocrinologist in Jefferson County, you may want to begin by performing a county search (for all providers in Jefferson County). If searching by county proves unsuccessful, try a name search (for Jane Doe) and then select the applicable specialty (endocrinology) to narrow down the search.
  • If you are struggling to navigate the provider search tool, click on the "Help" option and review any additional material which may be available.
